Celebrate Herbalist Day with Love Potions

Tula Health & Wellness

April 17th is an unofficial holiday where people show love to an herbalist. Sometimes referred as “Thank an Herbalist Day” today is intended to celebrate the importance of herbs and herbalists in our lives. Herbs have been used for centuries - medicinally as for healing the body, flavoring food, aromatherapy and for cosmetic uses.

As a holistic health practitioner and herbalist, I wanted to celebrate today by showing the flirty side of herbs. These herb inspired potions are for conjuring up love.

Love Potions

Before you create these love potions, please keep in mind that love potions are not intended to make someone fall in love with you unwillingly. Instead, the purpose that they serve is to assist in attracting the energy of love.

Lavender & Jasmine

Jasmine

a love-drawing herb that attracts long-lasting, spiritual love

Lavender

used as an herb to drive passion and seduction

Ingredients

1/4 tsp of lavender buds

1 tsp of jasmine buds

¼ cup of cold apple juice

1 tablespoon of honey

½ cup of cold passion fruit juice

¼ cup of rum

Directions

Add the jasmine and lavender buds to a bowl. Create an infusion by pouring about a cup of boiling water onto the buds. Stir in the honey. Let it steep for about 20 minutes. Strain the liquid from the buds and refrigerate for an hour.

Mix the remaining ingredients with the infusion. Then pour into a tall glass.

Basil Strawberries & Roses

Basil

Romans considered basil the herb of love, burning its leaves for love spells.

Strawberries & Roses

Although they are not herbs, strawberries and roses are commonly associated with love and romance.

Ingredients

1 ½ cup of strawberry syrup

1-3 basil leaves

½ cup of food grade rosewater

1/4 cup of white rum

¼ cup of club soda

FOR THE STRAWBERRY SIMPLE SYRUP:

  • Combine 1 cup water, 1/2 cup white sugar and 6 sliced strawberries in a pot and bring it to a boil.

  • Remove the pot from the heat, cover, and let it stand at room temperature until cool.

  • Blend the strawberries with 1 cup of water. Strain through a fine-mesh sieve to remove the solids.

Add the liquid to a pot, along with the sugar. Bring to a boil. Once it becomes syrup, let it cool in the refrigerator. Assemble the drink by placing the strawberry syrup and rosewater in a tall glass. Add the rum, then top with the soda and a basil leaf.

If you would like to take control of your health by utilizing the power of herbs, nutrition, and mindful practices,
